Route description
We start at Bäretswil station. Soon we have the choice either to further follow the industrial heritage trail or to take the hiking trail over Greifenberg. Both options will lead to Hinterburg and the Freihof restaurant. Those who hike over Greifenberg, will find the remains of a castle and children might be inspired to play knights.
Historical location
At Hinterburg we follow the Wissen creek to Neuthal where the industrial ensemble is located, featuring the spinning and weave machine museum – a contemporary witness of the innovation and the inventive talent of our ancestors who have led the Zurich Oberland to prosperity. Not only machines that have been saved from the junk yard, also endangered animals have found a new home here: the greater mouse-eared bat and the brown long-eared bat. The beautiful fire place with a good view of the railroad bridge has been named after these rare animals.
Regional specialities
Instead of having a picnic, enjoy a delicious meal at Wildi's bistro-shed at Neuthal station. From here, Bauma is not far anymore where we take the steam train back to Bäretswil. Before you leave, witness the art of hand weaving at the Heimatwerk and make a detour to the Voland confectionery that offers Baumerfladen, a traditional filled ginger bread, and other sweet delicacies.
